Welcome to the Blog guide. Even though most of your would say that it is too late to create a blog in 2017 since there are a lot of social media platforms and no one will come to your blog, I have to disagree with you.
Blogging has always been a great source of income for those that didn’t want to waste their lives at a 9-5 office job. Even though it is 2017, there are still lots of people that start this year and achieve success.
Why to blog?
Besides the fact that blogging is among the easiest things to do in order to earn money online, sometimes to blog can be really fun and can help you develop new skills such as communication, to improve your writing and to even help you create online friendships across the globe.
You can blog about anything you want. It can be about your job(until your boss finds you… LOL), about your personal life, about eating healthy, about your a**hole cat, about anything at all. Some interesting blogs that I have come across are on astronomy(since studying it is one of my hobbies…whenever I have time…), unexplained mysteries, religions, math and unsolved equations, music, photography, traveling and so on.
Let’s say that you follow your passion and you create a blog around astronomy and space exploration. While blogging about the news of this beautiful domain, you will be able to learn more about it, since you have to research first before you will create a post about it, you can chat with people in the comment section that know even more things about this and you can even earn money from it.
What is not to like?!
You can create a blog for both pleasure or to generate an income. However, if you decide that you want to create a blog that will generate you money, you will have to start and treat it like a real business.
In this guide, I am going to show you how to choose the perfect topic for your blog, how to create a free website for your blog, how to create a both short term plan and a long-term plan for your business and how to monetize it such that one day you could travel the world and earn money by working 2-3 hours a week. All of those will cost you exactly $0.
From now on, this discussion will focus more on how to create your blog in order to generate a source of income. If you want to create it for your own pleasure only, then I would advise you to still read the whole guide. I will include a lot of tips in order to help you develop your blog, no matter what you will use it for :).
Narrowing down what you want.
This, probably, is the most important step of every business. Without a vision, you will get nowhere. In order to create a plan, you will need to take a pen and write down the answers to the following questions. I mean it, literally go, get a pen and write down the answers to the following questions:
How much money would you be happy earning?
How much would you be ecstatic earning?
And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?
Notice the last question? That is there for a reason. Most of us are in such a rush to become rich that we end up like the hare, instead of the turtle. Please refrain from saying you want to be successful within a week or a month, because if you do this, I can honestly say you are setting yourself up for failure from the get go.
How do you start?
After you’ve answered to those questions then the next step for you is to find a topic or a “niche” for your blog.
Now, I have already gave you a few examples above, but as a piece of advice I will tell you that in order to have great success, your blog will need to help your visitors(such that they will share it and you will gain more traffic).
What does this mean?
You can help people in a lot of ways. There are so many ways to help people that I don’t even know from where to get started. For example:
- You can help people to get over a breakup, for those of you that want to share your personal life and give advice;
- You can help people understand something like math or photoshop or how to use a microwave and so on.
*Learn people how to use a microwave?! Dafuq… Yeah, I would’ve said the same, but for your information, there’s someone that microwaved their pet last year in USA(and yes, he or she sued the microwave company and won).
- For those of you that like arts, you can teach people how to recognize different paintings by the artist’s signature or how to paint or what to understand from a painting. The some goes for other arts. The possibilities are truly endless if you take some time and think about it.
- For people that practice hiking, you can share a lot of advice on what to do when you encounter a dangerous animal, when it rains, when you get lost, how to do different knots and so on.
- For those of you that watch a lot of movies. You can share your opinion about every movie you have seen. If you create funny reviews people will even share your posts… Lol :D.
- For people that spend their whole day and listen to music, you can share with the world all the songs that you know on any genre and perhaps for those of you that enjoy listening to classic music, you might even share with your visitors the message of the author.
- There is enough room even for those of you that like to read a lot of books. People will always look online for other books to read. It could be you who will advise them what to read from a specific genre.
- Or perhaps you like travelling. Then you can share with your visitors lots of images from your trips and advise them where to eat on certain places and what attractions to see.
The possibilities are truly endless. Those were just a few ideas that came to me on the spot. Literally, I haven’t spent more than 3 minutes to think about them.
Another tip is to choose something that you like to discuss about. Let’s say that right now you have a conversation with your best friend. What do you tell him about? Find a niche that you’re really passionate about.
If you will choose something that you know nothing about, you will have to spend a lot of time to study it and it will start to feel like work to you and not like a hobby from where you’ll earn money.
One more important thing is that once you’ve selected your niche, your blog will have to be about especially about that topic. It would be weird to create a blog on the benefits of vegans and to talk about iron chairs.
Make sure to take time to find something that you really like before moving on. You can even take a few days off in order to figure out. Nobody is rushing you! It will take months to get results from your blog!
What are your short-term plans?
Once you decide on your niche, you have to set a few goals for the short-term. Those are a little different than the previous goals. In order to help you set them more easily, I will ask you to answer to the following questions:
What results to you want to have in the next month?
What results would you like to have in the next three months?
What results would you like to have in the next sixth months?
How much money would you like to earn in the first year?
How much visitors would you like to have each month, starting from the sixth month?
How many hours a week are you willing to sacrifice for this?
I never thought about the importance of this questions when I first started this website. All I was thinking about was how to earn money, why I don’t earn money, why I don’t see any results. But I was having a lot of results, but in different meanings. You see, what I failed to understand for a few months is that in order to earn money, first you need to have traffic on your website.
In order to have traffic, you need your posts to rank well in the search engines.
In order for your posts to rank well in the search engines, you need to search engine optimize your posts.
In order to search engine optimize your posts, you need to have posts.
In order to have posts, you need to learn how to create posts.
In order to know how to create posts, you need to understand how to write quality content, how to stay with the latest trend and how to catch your visitor’s eye.
See, there is a whole cycle of steps that you need to complete before you will be able to earn money.
Don’t be discouraged about all this. This guide will cover all of the elements that you need to know in order to set up your blog and to earn money from it.
So I handled all of those? Well ,the first thing that I did and that I would encourage you to do is to start by creating two posts a week and in meantime to study all the information that you’ll find on my website.
The final goal of your blog will be for you to create content around something that is popular and to build an email list. Your list will be the main spot that you will use to market to your readers.
You will be more successful if you choose a topic that has an active social media presence. If your niche already has a build-in audience that is active and is frequently seeking for new information, you will have an easier time of it as a niche blogger.
