Can you build a website on mobile/tablet?

Hi, guys!

In this post, I am going to discuss about the advantages and disadvantages of building a website from a Smartphone and a Tablet.

Ok, so not all of us have a desktop or a laptop. Is it possible to actually create a website from a Smartphone or from a Tablet?

In short terms yes. However, it will be very hard to create a website from anything else than a laptop/desktop. I use my phone day and night. However, I find it pretty difficult if I would decide today to start and write a 1500 words article on my phone.

The phone is performant enough and whenever I don’t have my phone either in my pocket or in my hand, I get a feeling of missing something.

When you decide to build a website, you will have to do a lot of things. However, generating content is one of the main things that you will do. And to do that, you will need to do a lot of research. I don’t know how much research you do in general. For instance, I had to do a project at a module at my MSc and I think that right now I have exactly 37 tabs open. And this is after I closed like 5-10 half an hour ago…

I don’t think that I would be able to navigate through 37 tabs on my phone. I think that I would go crazy… Just imagine how big of a lag I will have with 37 tabs open on the phone. Lol.

What about a tablet? I have tablets as well. However, is the same thing. To stay on it, to play a few things or to take the tablet and cook after a recipe you researched online, that’s okay. However, to take the tablet and to start and write 3-4 500-700 words posts on the same day, I think it would quickly turn into a nightmare.

Now, it is easy to see why building a website on a phone or a tablet would be a disadvantage. Are there any advantages to that?

Well, the best advantage I think is that you can take either your phone or tablet, go to the beach, go in town, in your backyard and work on your website. The fact that a phone or a tablet lets you work on the website from wherever you are, I think that this is a great advantage.

Okay… okay… but there are laptops for that…?!

Yeah, but if you have a rusty laptop like I do, then in less than an hour and a half or two hours at best, your laptop will discharge. What would you do if you will be at the beach? Plug it into the sea? For phones and tablets, we have portable chargers.

I think that this is the only way that phones/tablets are superior to laptops and desktops.

So, to draw a conclusion, creating a website on a smartphone or a tablet is entirely possible. However, I would recommend it only if you don’t have access to a desktop PC or a laptop. If I am not wrong, I think that right now there are some keyboards which can be plugged in the PC or laptop. If you will get that, then it will be okay.

However, you might come across the storage problem. I have a lot of stuff installed in my laptop and for example, on this website, I already have over 600 images. Why can’t you just delete them after you upload them?

I am not sure, but for example on my laptop when I take a screenshot will save it with the name Screenshot001 or something like that. That’s all fine and dandy. However, when I decide to delete all the screenshots and take another screenshot, it will automatically be saved with the same name: Screenshot001. That’s because I deleted the previous screenshots and the computer sees that and decides to start from 001 once again.

Now, when you try to upload an image with the same name on your website, you won’t see it. Your website has a storage unit which doesn’t allow duplicates. The other solution is to start and rename each image separately. Whoever has time to give a specific name to every screenshot he/she takes? Not me.

Anyway, that’s all for today guys. If you have any questions about websites etc, feel free to share them with me in the comment section below.

Cheers,

Andrei.
