In today’s blog post I will show you what the web content writing prices are and I will also share with you why is hiring a content writer a bad thing.
So what is a ghostwriter? A ghostwriter or a freelancer ghostwriter it is actually not a ghost writing. Just kidding guys, don’t kill me… I had to do it. Well, ghostwriters are the persons that are willing to write posts and pages for websites for cash. They are usually paid for a 1000 word article.
It is pretty hard to estimate how much a ghostwriter is worth. There are many websites such as Freelancer.com that put the ghostwriters in contact with employees. Prices can vary a lot, from $2 – $30 per one post of 1000 words.
So, why is hiring a content writer a bad thing?
Reason 1 – Not having the expecting results
The result of what you will get may shock you. It doesn’t really matter if you hire a content writer for your website for $2 or $40. You will still have to be very specific when you tell them what to write about and where to research for valuable information. Moreover, you will also have to tell them if you want a specific text format since modifying it yourself will take you a lot of time.
This could be a waste of your time and money since you will have to hire someone else to write the same blog which the first ghostwriter failed. You can avoid that by giving them a test before they start to write for you. Ask them to make a research on a specific topic, tell them what you are expecting and see if you are satisfied with the outcome. Don’t expect it to be perfect, if it satisfies 80% of your needs then he is good to go.
Reason 2 – It might be expensive
Yes, I told you that it starts from $2-3, but in fact how much you are paying for is what you are getting. In other words, if you hire a ghostwriter for the minimum money, he will probably do a poor job.
You have to understand his point of view too. It is unlikely that he will lose precious time in order to earn your $2-3. He will probably rush into writing 1000 words, will not proofread your post in order to assure that it has sense and probably he will not even check his grammar.
Reducing costs by hiring the least expensive ghostwriter is not good for your website. You will lose visitors as fast as they come. They won’t stay and read your content that is full of grammar mistakes or where the ideas don’t follow any structure.
You can avoid that by offering more money to your ghostwriter. A $10 per 1000 word article should be more than enough. However, it could get a little expensive since your website should have around 200 posts and pages combined in order to have a lot of visitors. Just imagine… 200 * $10 = $2000. It is an investment that you have to make if you really don’t want to write your own content yourself.
Reason 3 – It might not sound human
Your content should be more as a conversation with a friend. You are not writing your speech for an Oscar award. I have seen plenty of people complaining that all their posts, done by ghostwrites, have lost their touch of humanity. They just seem to be written by a machine that doesn’t attach any feelings.
Showing your feelings, engaging with your visitors and writing as you are having a conversation will increase the trust in your audience. It is pretty hard to find a freelancer ghostwrites that writes with a sense of humour. Simply because they want to create more and more posts to gain more money.
The only way to avoid this is to ask them to write a post in a formal manner and another in a funnier manner.
Reason 4 – You could get duplicate content
First method: In today’s society there are many websites online that generate content fro different niches. For example, all you have to do is to write down a few keywords and a text will automatically be generated. Most of the time it doesn’t make any sense and it is copy pasted information.
The second method that a ghostwriter might use is to explore different websites on google and copy paste the information from more sources. Even if they remake the sentence, it won’t help you. Google’s Search Engine will still figure it out and it will rank poorly your page. Google is getting smarter and smarter every day.
Third method: A ghostwriter might receive lots and lots of requests on writing a blog. Eventually, some of those requests will be almost the same. Therefore, they may have already “templates” for popular requests such as weight loss posts, make money online, cats, dogs etc. They could easily complete your task by changing the structure of the previous template.
Why is bad for you?
When the SE scrolls to your page and sees duplicate content it will simply ignore it. That means that if people search for keywords that are in your copy pasted paragraph, your website will pop up on Google, but it will pop up on the page 10-18. And let me ask you when was the last time that you got to the page 2 of Google?
So how you figure out this? I actually offer this service of checking out your posts, sentence by sentence, and tell you if your content has been copy-pasted from other sources. Check out this service here!

A ghostwriter surely makes your life more easily, but it does the same for your wallet.
