How long does it take to get ranked when you change domains? This is today’s subject!
In case that you didn’t know, whenever you decide to get a new domain, your new website will no longer be ranked in the search engines.
This makes perfect sense because there wasn’t any website with that domain until you decided to buy it.
So does this mean that all of your links need to get re-indexed?
Your website will need to get ranked once again in Google and in the other search engines.
When I changed the domain of my website I think that this took somewhere to 12-24 hours. However, that was only for the website to get indexed in Google.
As a matter of fact, it takes at least one month in order for Google and for the other search engines to realize that this is not a new website and that you actually changed the domain.
This is why, at Wealthy Affiliate, you are asked to keep your old domain for at least one month before deciding to delete it. Don’t delete your old domain 5 minutes after setting up the new domain… LOL.
If you want to change your domain, I would advise you to do it in the very beginning of your website. Once you started to create 20-30 posts and added images and other core links, you are going to have a bad time if you want to change your domain.
You will have to go at every image/core link and change the link manually with the new domain. I think it took me around 2-3 hours to change all the links when my website had 20-30 posts/pages.
Just imagine if you have over 200 posts. It will take you at least one week. If you leave the images and core links with the last domain, they will all be considered as external links after some time. Moreover, after some those links won’t work anymore. The images will not be shown, the core links will not function and so on.
I am not sure if there is a plugin which changes all the links in all of your posts. I plan to change the domain in 2019 or even 2020 :D. If I will find a solution for this, I will definitely create a post about it!
That’s all for today guys!
Have a nice day,
