Welcome to the second part of the How to create a Youtube Channel for free guide. At this point, you should already have an idea of what your channel will be about.
Step 1) Creating your channel
Now for this step, you need to have set up a Google account. When you're done click on the following link:
Click on the Create a new channel button and come up with a name relevant to your niche.
Yeah, my "Brand" name doesn't sound that cool either. I will try to come up with a better name in the following days :D.
Anyway, if you already got your name, click on Create and now you should be able to add a Profile picture, a channel art and a channel description. You have to make sure that those three elements along with your channel name are pretty appealing in order to maximize the results.
If you literally have no idea on what description you can add, try to search for your competitor channels and after you studied around 20-30 competitors, try to come up with a pattern. Based on that, you should be able to come up with a good description and an idea of the channel name.
Once you got your channel's name, I will advise you to check this tutorial in order to see how you can get a free logo in 5 minutes.
Step 2) Creating and Uploading videos
Now this is the hard part. You need to take a few hours off and to come up with some scripts. It doesn't matter how bad your camera is, I've seen a lot of videos with thousands of views recorded from sh***y cameras. It is all about the idea behind the video. Try to come up with something funny or something useful.
There are a lot of video editors to help you edit your video. I personally used Camtasia which has a 30 day trial and I gotta tell you that once you learn how to use it, there is nothing that it can't do :D.
Once you have your video, you have to go on Youtube and click on the Upload icon at the top right of the screen.
Remember from the last post when I told you that you will need to SEO(Search Engine Optimize) your videos? Click on the link in order to see how to find the best keyword for your video.
Before you upload any video, the first thing you want to do is to go to the file location and change the video's name from 1931248821998 to the specific keyword that you found. For example, if you've got a keyword such as "Top 5 Gaming Laptops in 2017", you will want to change the name of your video to "Top_5_Gaming_Laptops_in_2017".
Once you've done that and you clicked to upload the video, you will be asked to add a description of the video.
Step 3) Optimizing Title, Description and Tags
Now I hope that you are perfectly aware that unless you create a video of throwing bananas at cars, there would be a lot of similar videos to yours on Youtube.
So, how can you assure that people will visit your video and that they won't go to the other guys? The simple answer is to SEO(Search Engine Optimize) your video in order to catch the eyes of both your audience and the search engine. Since there are 3 main components, I will take each of them separately:
One of the most important things when uploading a video is to find a great title. There are a few things that you can do in order to assure that.
- Make sure that your title sounds natural. Don't use a title such as "Hot white chocolate for kids". Instead use "How to prepare a hot white chocolate for kids". Remember that you are not writing for robots.
- Make sure that your keyword is in the title.
- Try to have at least 5 words in your title.
- Assure that your Keyword is in the beginning part of the title
- Try to give a taste to your title. Therefore, instead of writing a title such as "Top 5 Mysteries" try to use "Top 5 Mysteries that physicists CAN'T explain" or "Top 5 Mysteries of 2017"
If you have a video on something that is debatable, always try to go with the negativity. There are many studies out there showing that people tend to read more about negative stuff rather than positive stuff.
- Don't use more than one keyword in your title.
Description plays a great role at ranking your video. There are a few things that you can do in order to have a decent description.
- Make sure to state what the video is about. Both Youtube and Google will be interested for that in order to suggest your videos to people that recently searched something similar on the internet.
- Insert your main keyword at the beginning and at the ending of your description
- Don't just slam your keywords there. Try to create sentences around them.
- Try to write at least 200 words for your description.
- Make sure to ask people to share and subscribe to your Youtube channel.
- Make sure to include your main keyword in the first 25 words of the description.
- Try to use an informal tone.
Here you'll have to write the main keyword and your other keywords that you've found. Write as many as you want, but make sure that they are all relevant to your video.
Step 4 -> What is Creator Studio
Once you created a channel, you will also have your own Creator Studio. But what exactly is a Creator Studio? Well, the creator studio is something similar to a dashboard. Is the place from where you can change video descriptions, define settings, receive analytics on your videos and so on.
In order to access it, go to the top right corner and click on your logo pic.
As you can see, the video studio has more sections: Video Manager, Live streaming, community, channel, analytics etc.
The Video Manager is the Dashboard section where you can see all of the videos that you have uploaded. In here you can modify the title, the description, the tags and the settings of each video.
The community section is the dashboard section where you can see all the comments that you have receive on all of your videos. Here, you will also be able to see how many subscribers you have.
The Channel is our main area of interest. Here we will be able to see our Copyright status and more important is the fact that here we can find the Monetization feature.
Here, you need to select your country, to click on the Allow advertisements to be displayed on the video box, to link with your AdWords account(You will need to set up an AdWords account and this can be done easily, don't worry) and you can also add your Google Analytics code.
Once you are done, click on the save button and from now on, Youtube will start to display ads on your videos and you will start to earn money.
The last feature of your dashboard is named "Create". In this particular section, Youtube assists you in creating and editing your videos by putting at your disposal a large collection of sound effects and free music which you can insert into your videos.
Make sure to keep an eye opened for the human like icon. At some songs you are obliged to add the contribution in your video description( See image below). If the song doesn't have any contributions, then feel free to add it.
