How to make a website for free for kids

Hi, everyone!

In today’s post, I will show you how to make a website for free for kids. It takes less than 5 minutes and I will try to explain the process as good as I can!

There are many ways to create a website, but most of them will charge you money for hosting. If you want to create a free website for kids, then your best choice is Wealthy Affiliate. In very short terms, Wealthy Affiliate is a community that provides you with tutorials & webinars on creating a website, how to earn money from it and how to grow your audience. Those are WA’s main goals.

On the other hand, WA will provide the opportunity, for FREE, to build and host two websites for you. This is absolutely free and in order for them to show you that this is not a scam, they won’t even ask for your credit card information or other things.

You can learn more about what are the main features that WA provides you in my honest review about them. Without any further delay, those are the main steps that you need to make in order to build a website:

Step 1) In the below box, write any random name you want.

Don’t brainstorm yet. You can write absolutely any name that you desire. This won’t be the permanent name of the website. After you wrote an available name, click on the Build it Now blue button and you should get redirected to a new page.

*I will tell you when you will need to introduce the permanent name of the website.

Step 2) Write again the same thing and hit on Build My Free Website.

You are probably wondering what the heck is SiteRubix. In simple words, SiteRubix is the hosting partner of Wealthy Affiliate. Don’t worry, it is FREE. You can enter whatever name you like, it still won’t matter at this step. Just enter a name that is Available and hit on the Build My Free Website button!

Step 3) Registering to Wealthy Affiliate.

In order for this to work, you will need to set up a new account at Wealthy Affiliate. Don’t worry, there are no catches or hidden fees such as subscription etc.

Just write your information. Both your e-mail address and username can be changed later and I believe that the same thing will apply to your password.

However, before enrolling, I would suggest you to carefully read the Terms of Use. As far as I know, someone under 18 years old is accepted, but it needs his/hers parent approval. Please don’t follow blindly what I say and double check it on the Terms of Use.

Once you created your account, you will be given the option to follow a “welcome tutorial”, where it will be explained to you how the website works or to skip the tutorial.

Since many of you will probably take the tutorial, once you finished it, you have to go to the left menu, click on SiteRubix blue button and when it opens an additional menu to click on the Site Builder button.

For those that skipped the tutorial, you don’t need to make those steps since you will get automatically redirected to the following page.

Step 4) Creating your website

There are four aspects that you need to select in order to build the website. In order to avoid any confusion, I will explain them as simple as I can!

1-> Here you need to click the “On a free domain” image.

This will be your website’s URL/Domain*.

*-> An URL or a domain is the address that you write in your browser’s search bar in order to access a website. For example, if you want to access Youtube, you will write “www.Youtube.com”.

A free domain means that your URL will have the .Siterubix.com termination. Example:

www.WebsiteName.siterubix.com

A private domain, which you can have it by purchasing it, will look similar to this:

www.WebsiteName.com

2-> The domain name

This is where you have to come up with a good name for your kid’s website. This name will be permanent and you won’t be able to change it after you click on the build my website button.

If you wrote a wrong name and built your website, you have two solutions. The first option is to delete the website and build another one. The second option is to purchase a private domain and to transfer your website.

3-> Website Title

This will be the title of your website. It is not that important what title you insert because you can always change it later.

4-> Website Design

A website design or a website theme is basically the appearance and the shape of your menus, pages and posts of your website. For a free membership, you have access to only 12 themes out of 2460. The best theme that I would recommend you is called twenty- sixteen. It is free and it has a good aspect.

Step 5) Double check that you entered the correct domain and build your website.

You’re done! Your website is up!

Next step? Hit on the green “Get Started” button on the left screen in order to access your FREE tutorials and to learn how to develop a website.

This is pretty much all on how to make a website for free for kids. I hope you found it easily to follow my step-by-step tutorial. If you have any questions left, write them in the comment section below!

    This is great! I never thought of giving the kids a website. But when I think about it, I realize that it’s a great way for them to be creative! Blogging here and there is much better than playing video games. Setting up the site seems really easy itself, and then I’m sure they’ll catch on quickly and enjoy sharing their thoughts on their blog and invite their friends to read it. It will also help for their self esteem!

    1. Hello, Ben!

      I believe that a website could be more than a place for your kids to write about their daily lives. I suggest you make them start a website around one of their hobbies and in that way, it will be a great place to explore their hobbies by blogging all day about it. After all, the best way to learn something new is by doing something you like, right?

  2. Once again, great post Andrei!

    I enjoy to see that your post is written in a professional manner and if it wasn’t for you, I never thought that I could create a website for my child. I believe that this will be great for him to develop a passion. Thanks for pointing that out!

    1. Hello, Norman!

      Thank you for your kind comment! Having a passion at a young age is a must for any child. I am glad that I could help you to realise that you can help him find one and explore it through a simple website. Everyone needs a hobby and building a blog or a website around it, I believe is the cheapest way to do it. Both you and your child can search on the internet about interesting topics of that passion and once you learn more and more about it, you can share them on your website. Wish you both the best of luck!

  3. Great approach!! Wealthy affiliate is an awesome tool for anyone to make a website and is simple enough for kids to use!!
    Your tutorial is also very easy to follow and takes the guesswork out of how to use WA.

    thank you for sharing.

    1. Hi, Brent!

      Thank you for your feedback!

      I am glad that you enjoyed my tutorial and that you believe that it is simple to follow :D. From now on I will try to create even videos at each tutorial :)! Make sure to check my Wealthy Affiliate review in order to see everything you need to know about WA and also my Wealthy Affiliate Tips page in order to see more tricks such as how to cover the premium membership.

  4. Children are our future so it makes perfect sense for them to learn and understand about building a website from an early age as it will benefit them as they get older. Is there a certain age limit or can my 8 year old start his own website?

    1. Hi, Matthew!

      If you would have asked me that a week ago, I couldn’t provide you with an answer. However, just recently I have read the whole terms and conditions of The Wealthy Affiliate and it seems that it is available for all children with an age higher than 13. However, the children under 18 years old will need their parent’s permission in order to join!
